Beaches

Applecross peninsula is bordered on three sides by coastline. And what a coastline it is!

Craggy cliffs, beautiful coves, turquoise waters, sandy beaches and crystal-clear rivers. Perfect for swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding and messing about in boats. Below is a small selection of our favourite spots just to whet your whistle:

Sand Beach

Sand Beach

A huge open stretch of sandy beach just 5km from Hartfield. There is an enormous sand dune which is great for hill training, should you be needing it! The water here is initially shallow, with rockpools and a sandy bed. You may spot dolphins and sea otters from this beach.  It is great for collecting seaweed, and snorkelling.

Cuaig Beach

On the coast road towards Sheildaig is a beach worth visiting. Reached via a path from the roadside, it is a hidden gem, perfect for snorkelling, rock pooling, and some very special wild swimming.

The Bay

The Bay

A large swathe of sandy beach at the heart of the peninsula, The Bay has a large area of machair filled with all colours of wildflowers in the late spring. This beach is great for sunbathing, paddleboarding and for families as the waters are so shallow.

Coille Ghillie & Aird Bann (coral beach)

White coral beaches reaching down to turquoise waters, this is one of the most spectacular beaches on the peninsula. It is a 1.5km walk in to the beach along a rocky track (ideal for walking, running or mountain biking) but is well worth the trek. Swimming is a must, as is seal spotting and collecting jewel-coloured sea glass.
