Road Cycling

The Bealach-na-Ba offers road cycling at its very best. The climb: 626m (2,054ft) from sea level of gruelling ascent, cheeky swtichbacks, breathtaking views and invigorating descents. Not for the faint- hearted. But this isn’t the only highlight on the Applecross peninsula. The road clings to the coast, past white sand beaches, turquoise coves, craggy cliffs dotted with ancient birch wood and, nearer to the township of Shieldaig, beautiful Caledonian pine woods.

The Bealach-na-Ba is also one of the most popular for traffic and the roads can be extremely busy and congested. Please take a little look at this handy guide to cycling on single track roads.

Mountain biking

There are a number of excellent trails of varying difficulty on the Applecross peninsula. For those wanting a gentle cycle off road, there are the trails within the estate. Trails leaflet can be found at reception.

For those with more experience there is:

  • Coille Ghillie path – short (5km out and back) and rocky
  • Kenmore Path – 12 km of singletrack with 4km of forestry track, some great downhill and breathtaking views
  • Sand Path - just 5km of singletrack but with some cheeky downhill and beautiful views out over the water
  • Ardheslaig – again less than 5km out and back but spectacular views and a short downhill.
